In as many years, Roger never sold out to "the computer can do it for
you" art. He always remained faithful to the trade, sketching each
piece art by hand, then scanning it into the computer to retrace and
color digitally. In a bold move, this naturally gifted artist is
trading his computer for a canvas and his mouse for a paintbrush to
bring his popular whimsical style to the world of fine art.
In this series of paintings, appropriately titled "tropical daydreams",
Roger takes the viewer surfing with dolphins, sailing the high seas,
exploring the ocean's floor, or just relaxing in the shade of a palm
tree. As an artist, surfer and San Diego local, Roger says his work is
inspired by "a combination of real life experiences and tall tales from
the deep".
Since beginning his career as a technical illustrator for NASA in the
late 1970's, Roger's work has evolved into brightly colored, loosely
styled, uplifting art--a far cry from the space shuttle stowage
document.
Roger freelances full-time from his studio in La Mesa , California . He
is married and has two sons and a daughter. Roger spends much of his
free time renovating his historical 1908 home. He also enjoys the
beach, surfing and playing recreational baseball.
